The Team

Rachel

Group Chair person / Run Leader / Breeze cycle leader / Personal Trainer / Kettlebell instructor

IN A NUTSHELL...
I'm a stay at home mum of two young boys. I have always loved exercising, from playing netball at junior school, hockey at high school to rowing at university. I enjoy the challenge of training and seeing what my body can do! I do 1:1 PT, teach Kettlercise classes alongside leading runs, Buggy walks and cycling sessions for the Comets. I also try to run around my family commitments (as well as running around after my family ;-)). I decided to re-train in the fitness industry after the birth of my first son and am currently studying towards my Coaching women and Fell Running coach qualifications.

I am very proud to be part of the team, alongside Laura setting up Mindful Movers, a mixed gender group for anyone dealing with mental health issues who wants the benefits of exercise in a safe, supportive and inclusive environment.

The Comets is a fantastic team of women who are all passionate about exercise and are looking to pass on that enthusiasm and joy to others.

I started competing and training for Strongwoman in 2014 and fell in love with this sport after my first competition. The competitors were all shapes, sizes and ages and were an amazingly friendly bunch. I love exercising & cake in equal measure (I'm a avid Bake Off fan!) 🙂

FAVOURITE RUN:
White Edge 10km Loop in the Peak District or Yorkshire Sculpture Park on a sunny dry day. Gorgeous scenery, an awesome way to escape for an hour or so!

BIGGEST EXERCISE ACHIEVEMENTS:
Running a half-marathon with my little sister Samantha. Running various events with the Comets (including winning the Team Race at the Para's 10 mile event). Completing the Tough Guy obstacle race (twice, what was I thinking!), Competing in Strongwoman events, qualifying for the England's Strongest Woman final (June 2016), Aiming for my first Ultra race in Sept 2018! #thisgirlcan.

FAVOURITE PRE / POST EXCERCISE SNACK:
Lean in 15 protein pancakes (Mmmmm!) Carbs, protein and tasty what more could you want 🙂

Laura

Group Secretary / UKA Coach in Running Fitness / Breeze Ride Leader

IN A NUTSHELL:
I'm the mother of a teenager who is now away at university. I work full time for Wakefield Council and I am on a mission to be fitter in my 40's than I have ever been before (not too difficult as I only found exercise in 2014). Since joining Kettlercise classes with Rachel and founding the Comets I'm fitter than ever, confounding family and friends with my energy and enthusiasm for running (I was always the non-sporty one!) I am now a run leader and a bike leader. I've worked up from 1km to 10 mile runs and have a half-marathon in my sights! Who knows what challenge I'll tackle after that, sky's the limit! I am a walking advertisement for 'its never too late to start exercising and enjoying the benefits it brings to so many aspects of life'.

FAVOURITE RUN:
Any run with the Comets as you can't help but smile!

BIGGEST EXERCISE ACHIEVEMENT:
Completing the Para's 10mile Challenge with the Comets and winning the Ladies Team Event, Sept 2016. This was less than a year after starting walk / running and struggling to jog for more than a few minutes at a time. Completing my UKA Coaching in Running Fitness qualification in 2017. Working towards my first Ultra race in Dec 2018.

FAVOURITE PRE / POST EXERCISE SNACK:
Fruit toast from a well known coffee outlet after a Park Run.

Sarah

Vice Chairperson / Run Leader

IN A NUTSHELL:
I decided to take up running to try and get back in shape after my little girl was born. The weight had crept on and I found it hard to shift on my own. I work part-time in accounts and spend the rest of the time running round keeping a toddler out of mischief - an impossible task! Since joining Comets in February, I've noticed a massive improvement to not only my physical but mental health as well - having the support of a team really keeps you motivated.

FAVOURITE RUN:
You can't beat an early Sunday morning run around the country lanes of Emley and Flockton. A perfect opportunity for time out from a busy life. Anything from 5-10km always fits the bill and sets me up for the week ahead.

FAVOURITE POST EXERCISE SNACK:
I love the Body Coach Lean in 15 recipes. The date and oat protein power bars are a great post run snack - there's even a bit of chocolate!

BIGGEST FITNESS ACHIEVEMENT:
I've only been running since February 2017, so my biggest achievement so far is actually sticking at fitness! Before joining the Comets I found it difficult to keep up the momentum of exercising. I'd stick at it for a couple of months and then the excuses would start creeping in. Having a team to run with is so encouraging, not to mention catching up on all the weekly gossip is an added bonus! We completed the Kirklees 10k as a team this summer, and I'm looking forward to getting booked in for a few more challenges soon so watch this space!

Samantha

Group Treasurer / Walking for Health Leader / Kettlercise Instructor

IN A NUTSHELL:
Like my sister Rachel, I've always had an interest in fitness, from organised gym classes to my own training. Even at school I was a member of the netball team and enjoyed the P.E. lessons when others were hiding in the changing rooms. I'm a mum of 2 gorgeous girls so I'm now on a mission to fit exercising around the demands of motherhood.

FAVOURITE RUN:
Just getting out for a run and natter with the Comets always makes me feel better!

BIGGEST EXERCISE ACHIEVEMENT:
Walking to Everest Base camp as part of a world travelling tour with my husband. Completing the Stanford Hall Half Marathon with Rachel.

Natalie

Run Leader

IN A NUTSHELL:
I'm a mum to 3 beautiful girls (1 set of twins) and I'm on a mission to fit exercise around my family and work commitments. I'm a teacher and find exercising a way to clear my head and find some me time. I enjoy running and taking part in a variety of gym classes. Finding time to exercise and release the tensions of the day either on my own or with the Comets is an important part of my weekly routine.

FAVOURITE RUN:
My early morning 5-7km loop around Emley. It blows the cobwebs away and sets me up for the day!

BIGGEST EXERCISE ACHIEVEMENT:
Trekking in Machu Picchu during an amazing year travelling with my husband (pre-children).
